What is BVLOS in drone operations?
BVLOS stands for Beyond Visual Line of Sight. It means a drone is operated beyond the distance where the remote pilot can maintain direct unaided visual contact with the aircraft. BVLOS is important because it can allow drones to support longer-range inspections, remote site monitoring, infrastructure surveys, emergency response and drone-in-a-box operations.
However, BVLOS operations are more complex than standard visual line of sight flights and need the right authorisation, planning and safety case.
