Job Description

We've got an exciting new role available for an experienced Senior Drone Pilot to join our growing team in the commercial drone world. You'll be part of our operational team providing drone inspection, survey and response services on a range of tasks such as critical national infrastructure surveys, Asset and building inspections or working with first responders.

 

Senior Drone Pilots are at the very core of our operations. They are the essence of professionalism, they are safety conscious, and they are operationally experienced with a focused mind and have exceptional organisational skills.

 

At Team UAV, the Senior Drone Pilot is the leader of our core team of Pilots and Sensor Operators. They manage the team and also carry out complex tasks. They are sometimes away in hotels for 2-3 days per week or away for up to 2 weeks at a time on larger projects, this can be in the UK and overseas.

 

It's a fast-paced and exciting role, and the hours can sometimes be long - but our work is rewarding, and you'll get a great sense of achievement from the tasks you carry out.

When you're not flying, you'll be working from the office planning tasks, organising and processing data, and managing all aspects of the operational team. You'll be building new procedures and finding innovative new ways and new technology to carry out bespoke tasks. You'll also have the chance to research, develop and test new equipment. You'll often come across tasks that have never been completed before, where you'll have to problem solve and think out of the box to deliver the objective.

There's great career progression too, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and take part in further training. Your job as a Senior Drone Pilot will give you the basic skills and mindset for progression within the company.

Some of the main qualities we are looking for in a Senior Drone Pilot for this position are exceptional time management and organisational skills, with keen attention to detail backed up with a BSc or MSc in Surveying / Geomatics or other relevant qualifications - as well as significant experience working within the drone industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Operational Drone Strategy Development:

Formulate comprehensive operational strategies for drone projects conducted worldwide to ensure efficient execution and the timely hand over of accurate results.

 

2. Effective Team Leadership:

Assume a leadership role in flight operations, managing a proficient and cohesive team consisting of remote pilots and ground personnel.

3. Competency and Resource Enablement:

Ensure that all team members possess the requisite skills, training, and resources essential for the effective discharge of their responsibilities, promoting a culture of preparedness.

4. Safety and Compliance Adherence:

Promote a culture of safety and regulatory compliance within the team, rigorously upholding aviation regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.

5. Performance Evaluation and Development Support:

Conduct routine performance assessments, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate the professional development of team members to foster ongoing excellence.

6. Collaboration and Resource Optimisation:

Collaborate seamlessly with other teams, departments, and stakeholders to optimise resource allocation, streamline operations, and achieve shared objectives.

7. Thorough Flight Planning Oversight:

Oversee comprehensive flight planning activities, ensuring strict adherence to operational procedures, safety protocols, and industry best practices.

8. Real-Time Mission Monitoring:

Monitor mission progress in real-time, making necessary adjustments to ensure the safe and efficient attainment of mission objectives.

9. Operational Planning and Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate closely with project managers and stakeholders to develop detailed operational plans, establish timelines, and identify resource requirements for each project or operation.

10. Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategies:

Conduct meticulous risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimise operational risks, ensuring the safety and success of missions.

11. Accurate Documentation:

Maintain precise records, including comprehensive flight logs, documentation, and incident reports, in strict accordance with regulatory requirements.

12. Continuous Learning and Innovation:

Remain current with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, and apply this knowledge to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

 

13. Drone Pilot:

Carry out drone flights on various projects.

Minimum Requirments

  • Hold a valid GVC or EU Specified Category

  • Have over 150 logged flight hours (provide evidence)

  • Have 2 years of team management experience and a management qualification

  • Have experience using a variety of fixed-wing and multirotor aircraft below 25kg

  • Have extensive underpinning knowledge of UK drone regulations and safety standards

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to engage directly with clients

  • Have a BSc or MSc in surveying, geomatics or other survey-related qualifications

  • Ability to plan flights, identify risk and produce RAMs

  • Experience using ground-based and aerial LiDAR reality capture and SLAM

  • Experience using DJI products

  • Experience in capturing photogrammetry data 

  • Experience of Ground Control

  • Experience in capturing inspection images and video

  • Experience in processing photogrammetry data

  • Experience in creating digital twin models

  • Good knowledge of drone technology, new tech and an eye on future tech

  • Must hold the full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and operate in the outdoors for extended periods

  • Have a professional attitude and confidence in your own ability

  • Confident to talk to the general public and landowners

  • Experience in obtaining authorisation to operate in restricted airspace

  • Confident in mitigating risks

  • Ability to manage a growing team

  • Capable of making decisions in high-pressure environments

  • Organised and good time management skills

  • Willing and able to work away from home

  • Good literacy and IT Skills

  • Familiar and confident with Apple products (phone and MacBook Pro)

  • Interest in drone technology and remote sensing

  • Enthusiastic about the application of new technology

Ultra Desirable

  • Specific drone industry qualifications such as OFQUAL 5 Award for drone pilots

  • Experience of operating confined space drones and confined space qualified

  • Have experience using a variety of fixed wing and multirotor aircraft above 25kg

  • Over 200 hours of flight time

  • ROV qualifications and experience

  • Ex-military or emergency services

  • Qualification in carrying out asset or building inspections

  • Working knowledge of Pix4D and/or qualification

  • Working knowledge of DJI Terra

  • Working knowledge of Agisoft

  • Working knowledge of Bentley products

  • Experience with DJI M300

  • Experience with Drone LiDAR Equipment

  • Experience with Wingtra

  • Experience with Sensefly Ebee X

  • Experience with EVLOS operaitons

  • Experience with BVLOS operations

  • Experience working within operational safety cases

  • First aid trained
