Our RAPIDAIR got off to a great start in 2016. The first task of the year was to locate roof damage on a colossal building in Central Birmingham - UK.

Team UAV Operations Department received the call early on Jan 4th, 2016 from a large blue chip corporation. During the winter storms, their HQ had received damage to the roof. The client was only aware of the damage due to the roof panels being blown into the loading compound on site. With the colossal building height above 100ft and the ground uneven, it was not safe for a scissor lift or cherry picker to inspect the damage. It would have also meant that it would have been a high risk task to walk on the roof of the structure to locate the damage.
Within 60 minutes of receiving the call Team UAV were able to divert a Team to deploy to the site. In inclement weather, the team safely piloted a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or drone as they are more commonly known) 100ft above the structure to detect the damaged area.

Not only were the team able to locate the damage within 15 seconds, but were able to accurately geolocate the damaged panels to within 50mm of their relative position by creating a point cloud mesh model.
All the client required was the image of where the damage was from and a corresponding hi res close up picture of the damage.

Going above and beyond of what was required, the team were able to draw further information from our dedicated software. Giving our client accurate measurements of the damage, including length of material required, width and pitch angle. This is only possible through our safe and proven methods of inspection and mesh modelling software. Measurements were given and the required replacement panels were ordered on site.

Taking our responsibility one step further to provide actionable, intelligent data; the team were then captured Hi Resolution Hyper-spectral imagery. The images were able to assess the damage that would not have been visible to the human eye.
The images below depict water underneath the roof, which had been absorbed by the exposed insulation. With the ability to calculate complex areas we were able to quantify the affected section as well as calculate the additional weight of water on the suspended ceiling beneath, saving our client thousands in manual inspection fees, not to mention not a single person working at height throughout the entire task.
